This is very interesting if not simplistic. Most of what we know about Socrates is through Plato’s platitudes; if we are to go by these alone then Hippocrates was nothing more than a naive and misguided child.
Hippocrates actually proclaimed DEMOCRITUS to be the wisest person on earth, whilst Diotima proclaimed Socrates the wisest.
Thus; one has the Oracular/spiritual stamp of approval, the other has the Atomic/scientific.
As much as I revere Socrates, he had nothing on Democritus!
I was under the impression that the Oracle of Delphi told Socrates that he was the wisest man. Am I wrong?
No, what you said is true.
My friend, Taiana Camarado, from Australia authored BreakThrough The Barriers which helps you break through anything that holds you back. You come out more inspired… a winner. breakthroughthebarriers
the wisest man in athens, i believe
My fantasy dinner party guests would be: Socrates, Jesus, and Nietzsche. Maybe I’d invite the Marquis de Sade over for dessert….
what about al roker?
What the fuck does 9/11 have to do with Socrates?
Take your conspiracy theories elsewhere. I think that I speak for the majority of viewers when I say that comments on a message board devoted to philosophy should be relevant to philosophy. More specifically they should be relevant to the topic of self confidence, the main point of this video.
how does this government conspiracy theory have anythin to do with self confidence? is there any reliable source you can cite?
In other words; do you have any evidence to support your claims.
In response to your last quote, have you ever stopped to think that you may just be filling your head with all of these crazy theories and have henceforth fooled yourself in to believing nonsense ?

Sew crates.
i would weigh what happened to Socrates…..the shadows have ears
I’m not sure if ANYONE here gets Socrates. Even with all the questions he asked, Socrates never obtained ANY UNVARIABLE TRUTH. The Socratic Method can only prove Skepticism. Not conspiracy, Skepticism, that knowledge isn’t possible…maybe. Think about it, who can prove that they THEMSELVES exist??? (Cogitio Ergo Sum isn’t good enough)

For a name of such great pretentiousness, I find it ironic that you are unsure of your existence.
Well I was into a lot of XKCD, so its a homage to lower level math, but yes, there is a contradiction between the name I chose and the views I possess. If in any way I believe myself “greater” than anyone else, it is that I try not to think I know that which I do not know. That and I set up this account to argue with people and show them do not know what they think they know. Most people give up after awhile in the “why” game : ).
Hey guys! ;D
Some people enjoy the “why” game.
Questioning EVERYTHING is the essence of Ancient Greek philosophy that gave rise to Western Civilization. Socrates was more interested in the fabric of questions and not in answers because answers tend to be confused with biases rather than in truths.
What is “true” to one individual in society may be “false” to another individual in society.
Consider the arguments for and against the existence of God. The Christian versus the atheist. Can either one “prove” that they are right?
I agree.
