Hypnosis – Unraveling The Mysteries Behind It

Myths have always chased hypnosis and its therapeutic arm, hypnotherapy. Some believe them to be some type of spell while others refuse to even acknowledge them. Following are some of the well known misconceptions about hypnosis and the truth behind them.

There is no mysticism or rituals involved in hypnosis. Psychology and several other scientific disciplines have a critical role to play in the hypnotic procedure, and it is very easy to acquire and practice. The genuineness of hypnosis is suspected even by individuals who have watched it working on subjects. They argue that those who can be hypnotized are somehow weak mentally. But this again is a complete fallacy. Hypnosis can be done on anyone irrespective of his or her mental strength.

Another notion about hypnosis that people have invented arbitrarily is that it is an altered state of consciousness. A person under hypnosis does not get shut off from the outside world, but remains completely conscious of the happenings around him. Hypnosis actually induces a state of absolute calm characterized by a rise in levels of concentration, and this heightened sensitivity helps the subject to absorb new inputs with considerable ease.

Some researchers have found that hypnosis succeeds on just 5% of the human population, and this is another prevalent myth. Researchers have hit upon this low result because they have used the identical hypnosis technique on all people without considering their individual natures. Hypnosis can’t be oversimplified like that and clicks only if there are different methodologies for different characters.

People also tend to connect hypnosis to meditation. However, meditation is a purely personal experience that has got nothing to do with communication, on the other hand communication is a fundamental part of any successful hypnosis. Similarly, a state of trance is also sometimes equated with hypnosis, which is not true. Just like meditation, trance is a state of mind, and it is not linked with communication in any manner, while the very basis of the hypnosis method is communication.

It is commonly thought that hypnosis training or hypnotherapy cannot bring transformations in physique or in patterns of conduct of an individual. Hypnosis obviously cannot achieve something that is unnatural to the body. However, it can propel the body to a healthy shape through behavioural changes like eating less, and giving up smoking and other addictive habits by ensuring a good amount of of motivation in an individual.

Experiencing hypnotherapy is a fine way to lead a richer and fulfilling life, and therefore one should not pay attention to the misconceptions, and go for hypnotic sittings with an unbiased mind.
