Hypnosis as a technique for inducing a dreamlike state in people who are susceptible or amenable to the efforts by a professional hypnotherapist or hypnotist had been with us for hundreds of years. Hypnosis induction is used to induce a hypnotic state in people through the use of one technique or another, which is commonly known as a “hypnotic induction.”
Hypnosis itself is usually a certain type of mental state or attitudes on the part of a person who is being hypnotized. The hypnotherapist or hypnotist uses a series of techniques known as hypnotic induction to create the attitude necessary for a person to become hypnotized. There are a number of techniques that people can use on themselves to induce hypnosis of a type.
Before hypnosis is possible, there must be a period of hypnosis induction, which can be one of many or several different techniques used by the hypnotist during the course of the hypnosis session. Those wishing to self-hypnotize may also use certain auto-suggestive techniques on themselves. The traditional view of induction was that the subject would be put into a “hypnotic trance.”
Generally speaking, there are a great many techniques that are used for a hypnotic induction. By far, the most well-known and effective technique used for induction is still the one created by hypnotist James Braid. The technique itself is sometimes known as Braidism and consists of eye fixation in which a person stares at a gently moving object, concentrating fully on it until hypnosis is induced.
Hypnotic induction can also be used effectively by those wishing to encourage themselves to enter a type of hypnotic state. With practice and consistent use of the techniques, people can use it effectively to change behaviors that may be negatively impacting them. This can include helping themselves to quit smoking or to stick with a diet and exercise plan.
The sum total of all techniques that are used to induce hypnosis in a person are known as hypnosis induction or hypnotic inductive techniques. They are used by professional hypnotists and hypnotherapists along with many people who are interested in self-hypnosis. With them, a person can enter into a dreamlike state or set of attitudes that can aid greatly in modifying behaviors.
